Thomas Wiegand

Thomas Wiegand (born 1970 in Wismar, Germany) is a German electrical engineer who actively participated in the creation of the H.264/AVC video coding standard. He was one of the chairmen of the standardization committee (Joint Video Team (JVT) and the editor of the standard itself. He was also an active technical contributor to the standard. Wiegand is the head of the Image Communication Group in the Image Processing Department of the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications – Heinrich Hertz Institute ([1]), Berlin, Germany. At Heinrich Hertz Institute, he is heading a research team ([2]) working on
