Thoresby Hall
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thoresby Hall is a stately home in Nottinghamshire in the Dukeries about 3 miles from Clumber Park.
Once the home of the Duke of Kingston, it passed into the ownership of the Earl Manvers.
It was the birthplace of Lady Mary Wortley Montagu
It was rebuilt by John Carr in 1767-1772 and by Anthony Salvin in 1864-1871.
In the 20th century the house was threatened by subsidence caused by coal mining. The contents and buildings were sold in 1989 and it is now a country house hotel [[1]].
