Thornleigh railway station is a station on Sydney's CityRail network servicing the suburb of Thornleigh in Sydney's Hills District. Opening in 1886[1], this station lies on the Northern Line leading from Berowra in the north through to North Sydney station via Strathfield and Central. This station has three platforms- two in the 'Up' direction (platforms 1 and 2) and one in the 'Down' direction (platform 3); however platform 1 is rarely used, as passenger trains rarely use the 'Up and Down Relief lines' which start at Thornleigh. The interlocking at Thornleigh has been controlled from Strathfield signal box since the local control room was closed on 12 November 2006[2].
