Thought Riot
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thought Riot is a hardcore punk band from California's Central Valley. Signed to A-F Records in 2001. Released Shattered Mirror Syndrome in 2002 and Sketches of Undying Will in 2003. Members of the band can be seen in the Anti-Flag DVD, "Death of a Nation".
The band origniated in Modesto, California, and also resides in Livermore, California. The band is comprised of intellectual young people, and pushes progressive politics. The writings of philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche are cited and often paraphrased in the band's lyrics, especially on the 2003 release "Sketches of Undying Will".
The band members are Straight edge, choosing to abstain from tobacco, drugs, and alcohol. They don't, however, attempt to "preach" this through lyrics, like other straight edge bands have. In fact, the lyrics to both "On New Tablets" (from the 2003 release "Sketches of Undying Will") and "Sign of the times" (from the 2002 release of "Shattered Mirror Syndrome") make reference to their belief that the choice to become straight edge is not one to be made lightly, or as part of a trend, else it becomes "another well disguised addiction"("On New Tablets").
