Donlyn Lyndon said (in his 1982 book, The City Observed: Boston, A Guide to the Architecture of the Hub), that "if you stand on the corner of Clarendon Street and St. James Avenue and look directly into the mirrored surface of the third Hancock, you will see reflected there the first two, aligned hierarchically in an ethereal family portrait." This photo was taken from that spot. The glass structure is the John Hancock Tower at 200 Clarendon, the reflection shows the other two Hancock buildings: The ornate building in the foreground is the original 1922 John Hancock Building at 197 Clarendon, while the tower behind is the (connected) 1947 John Hancock Tower.
