A threadmate is a friend, acquittance, or family member sharing the same email thread for more than 50 messages. After 50 messages, everyone on the email thread is officially a "threadmate". They may then hang out, date, or introduce the other person as "their threadmate"
This term was officially popularized by Michael Shafrir, better known as the "thread master".
While Michael Shafrir is considered the original "thread master", Amit Gulati is the true originator of the word "threadmate"
