[edit] Series
In 1981, the popular TV sitcom Til Death Us Do Part (BBC, 1966-1975) was picked up by ITV company ATV and brought back for a further six episodes under the title Till Death... as the title Til Death Us Do Part was controlled by the BBC.
Una Stubbs returned for three episodes as Rita together with her son Michael, but without her layabout husband Mike (Anthony Booth).
The show saw the return of popular East End bigot Alf Garnett (Warren Mitchell). He and his wife Else (Dandy Nichols) have now retired to Eastbourne. They are sharing a place with Min (Patricia Hayes) following the death of her husband Bert (Alfie Bass). Mike and Rita, popular characters from Til Death Us Do Part were no longer main characters. Una Stubbs returned for three episodes as Rita together with her son Michael, but her although her layabout husband Mike (Anthony Booth) was talked about, he was never seen.
Michael (born in Til Death Us Do Part in September 1972) had seemingly become a victim of Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome as he had reached the age of 16 and was now and a punk rocker, much to Alf's dismay.
The show was not very popular, mainly because of the huge differences from Til Death Us Do Part. After just six episodes the show ceased production.
[edit] Continuity Errors and Trivia
The show was famous for many continuity errors and differences from its predecessor:
- Michael Jr. was now 16 and a punk rocker. He was born in 1972 on the original show and it being 1981 he should have only been 9.
- Alf and Else had separated at the end of Til Death Us Do Part but are now reconciled with no explanation.
- Min in considerably older than in her Til Death Us Do Part years.
- Till Death was one of the few British sitcoms ever to use a laugh track rather than a studio audience.
