[edit] Military career
Historically, the earliest mention of Vorenus is as a centurio secundi pili for Legio XIII Gemina during the Gallic Wars, prior to the Battle of Alesia in 52 BC.[2].
Vorenus later rose to the rank of primus pilus prior to Caesar's civil war. By 48 BC, Vorenus had been inducted as a prefect in the evocati. As most of the soldiers of Legio XIII were lost at sea, it is likely that Vorenus was present aboard Mark Antony's sole surviving ship and fought in the Battle of Pharsalus. It is unknown if Vorenus travelled to Egypt with Caesar's legions, or if he had already left the evocati[3].
[edit] Political career
The next mention of Vorenus is in a list of recently elected magistratus compiled in 45 BC[4].
In 44 BC, Vorenus was among the many non-patricians admitted to the Roman Senate by Dictator Julius Caesar. Most scholars contend that Vorenus was not present at the assassination of Caesar. Vorenus' activities after Caesar's death are unknown, although it is possible he was killed by the Second triumvirate for being a Catonian.[5]
