I'm a member of WikiProjects Biography, India and Pakistan, and work on a wide range of Wikipedia articles, mostly from the fields of biography, history, social sciences and popular culture.
In addition, I contribute copyedits, style edits and NPOV rewrites whenever possible.
[edit] Proposed Wikiproject:Cosmetics
I'm surprised by the paucity of information on cosmetics on Wikipedia, from every perspective. Far from being a frivolous subject, cosmetics are now a multibillion-dollar multinational industry. Most Wikipedians probably use a large number of cosmetic products every day.
Under the general heading of cosmetics, the scope of the project would include:
- Make-up
- Skincare
- Perfumery
- Cosmetic surgery
- Ingredients
- History of cosmetics
- Business and industry of cosmetics
- Cosmetic science
- Cosmetics in medicine
- Biographies of cosmetics magnates, make-up artists, models, and others
... and more (please suggest).
There are several angles from which I think a Wikiproject could help:
- Creating articles on the history of cosmetics worldwide, and on the cosmetics industry; this could bring in history, society, industry, economics, development, feminism, popular culture, animal welfare, religion, anthropology, ethics, controversy and so on.
- Improving existing articles, adding links, citations, photos, tables, and categories.
- Adding scientific information on cosmetics ingredients, processes, and products.
- At the moment, many cosmetics articles are blighted with advertorial copy; one of the functions of the Wikiproject would be to excise this.
- NPOV and style-editing would be major tasks.
