Tirebolu

Tirebolu (formerly Tireboli; Greek Τρίπολις) is a district and town of Giresun Province, Turkey, the ancient and Byzantine Tripolis. It has a population of 17,450 (2000).
It is located on the Black Sea shore and has a little harbour.

- 656 BC founded by Greek colonists from Miletus.
- 1204 became part of the Empire of Trebizond under Alexios I.
- 1397 conquered by the Ottoman Hacı Emiroğlu Süleyman.
- 1916 occupied by Russian troops until 1918.
