[edit] Adarsh Samaj

I've restored the page per the requests. My reason for the deletion was it does not assert any particular importance, is not wikified, and was titled in all caps (not a good sign for a "real" article). I changed the Speedy Request to a PROD and moved to a proper title. Staxringold talkcontribs 19:16, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

I see you've been editing this article since we got it saved on behalf of the newcomer, Adarshsamaj, that created it. If you believe in this article and its topic, then by all means keep at it. I notice, however, that the original author has made no additional edits (either to this article or any others), in spite of comments and suggestions on his talk page. At this point, you should not feel compelled to keep working on this "to be a good guy" or to "stick up for a newcomer". I've wasted lots of time in the past working on newcomers' semi-vanity or vanity articles, only to find they had no interest in ever adding to Wikipeida again, including the article I busted my butt for. You've certainly gone beyond the call of duty in your first efforts on his behalf and I am disappointed to see he/she has not bothered to reciprocate.
This is one reason I like the PROD process -- the author gets 5 days to show that he/she can make the article into something acceptable, even if not wikified or pretty. If they don't care to do this, then I lose interest. So I fight to get speedy deletes changed to PRODs, but I like to see the newcomer showing some "skin in the game"
That's my two cents worth and it certainly should not be viewed as criticism -- I very much respect what you've done.
--A. B. 18:47, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
I agree with the above, and certainly don't intend to do any more to it. All I did was add some obvious links and put in the missing <references/> tag.
Also, bear in mind that the author is probably Indian, and possibly does not have regular internet access, so may not have seen the changes and discussion yet. -- Tivedshambo (talk) 19:41, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Good point re: access.
I just received an e-mail today from another guy for whom I had earlier gone to bat. He was asking me to more or less fix his stuff, prove its notability, etc. This was in response to an e-mail I had sent him 1-2 weeks ago.
See:
and then compare that with
The whole experience left me feeling like a naive chump who'd wasted a lot of time. I'm much more selective of which new users I support and how far I go on their behalf. I still hate to see speedy deletions and tactlessly, brusque actions against the articles and their newcomer-creators, but I also want to see some follow-up on the newcomer's part.--A. [edit] My revert on 2006 FIFA World Cup

Please explain why you reverted my edit to 2006 FIFA World Cup? It was a perfectly legitimate edit, and an important piece of information (the heading is tournament summary, not match summary) -- Tivedshambo (talk) 06:42, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

I have determined that my reversion was in error -- sort of. When reverting users' edits, I don't have the opportunity to give a reason for the reversion. The addition you made to the article was unsourced. Though both you and I know that Brazil was one of (if not the only) favorite in the World Cup, it was unsourced, and had to be removed. Next time, please add some support before claiming that Brazil was the "favorite." Ian Manka Talk to me! 20:34, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Follow up - you claim that "Brazil were favourites" was uncited. They were number 1 seed (I must admit I thought this was in the article itself - I've just checked and it's on a linked page). Although this doesn't necessarily make them favourites, it is common knowledge. (I agree a reference would be technically required under the rules of WP, but if we did that for every minor detail in an article of that size, it would become impossibly large). Even so, if you thought that a reference was required, a {{fact}} tag should be all that is necessary, not a full reversion. Finally, can I suggest that where an edit is not obviously vandalism, you wait a few minutes before altering, as the original editor may be making changes (as I was at the time - putting the link to Brazil national football team, which incidentally also cited them as favourites). -- Tivedshambo (talk) 20:52, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Once again, my mistake. It was 2:35 in the morning here, and I was tired, but that is no excuse. I read somewhere that an editor should never edit when tired. Anyways, deepest apologies. No hard feelings? Ian Manka Talk to me! 21:01, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your explanation - don't worry about it ;-) -- Tivedshambo (talk) 21:05, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] user pages

Please do not edit my user pages without permission. Thank-you.

I do apologize for editing your user page without asking you first, but when you put {{stub}} on any page, it places the page in Cat:Stubs. I am a stub sorter and I go through Cat:Stubs all the time and sort them into the proper stub types. User pages are not articles and they should not have stub tags. It's fine to put an article on your sub-page in order to get it ready for the article space, but please do not put any tags on it, such as {{stub}} or anything like that. Again, I apologize for not asking first, but I was just doing my job. ~ Amalas rawr =^_^= 16:59, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] speedy deletion

There appears to be some confusion. The Wiki guidelines state that the hangon tag should be removed by the author, not posted alongside the speedy removal tag.

Can you please help me with my understanding of this policy?

Fossiltooth 23:12, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

You had removed the {{db-band}} tag, not the {{hangon}} tag. I don't know whther this was intentional, or just an accident on your part.-- Tivedshambo (talk) 08:20, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pheasant

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Pheasant (chess), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Pheasant (chess). If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.

[edit] Lakeside Miniature Railway

Your edit summary: "Lakeside Miniature Railway is not a minimum gauge railway". Why not? I can't find any gauge listed, but photos seem to show it as less than 2 foot - probably 15". -- Tivedshambo (talk) 19:08, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

The distinction between a miniature railway and a minimum gauge one is that a miniature railway's locomotives are scale models of actualy prototypes, while a minimum gauge railway is a true narrow gauge line built on tracks of 18 inch gauge or less. In other words a miniature railway is a very big model railway and a minimum gauge railway is a very small prototype :-) I believe the Lakeside uses principally model locos, so should be listed in miniature railways article, not the Minimum gauge railways article. I hope this makes sense. There was some confusion as "miniature railway" was for a time redirecting to Minimum gauge railways, which was incorrect. I've fixed that in the last few days.
I hope this makes sense. Best, Gwernol 19:14, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vanity page

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Geraint Johnes, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Geraint Johnes. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.

[edit] Headblade

Hi

I am working on the headblade page and I obviously want to do it correctly. This is my first page. I cited the Time magazine article that named it the named it one of the best designs of 2000. I also moved the link for the company to the external link section and removed that it i the ultimate shaving razor and made it just a shaving razor. What else should I do. The otehr stuff I think is facts but I know that doen't mean you want them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Barry Barryfein 23:32, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

The page seems to have improved a lot overnight - I don't think much else needs doing. -- Tivedshambo (talk) 07:20, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank you - How do I get the message you put on the top to stop appearing about it being advertisement? Barryfein 22:46, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

I see you've done this. I've requested external peer review for an outside opinion on the article. Incidentally, you must make sure the images used has the correct copyright tag, as it is currectly nominated for speedy deletion for this reason. -- Tivedshambo (talk) 16:22, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] John llewellyn Chapman

I hope I'm doing this correctly.

In reply to your question. This is my first article. I've done research in other technical fields "nothing published" and nothing on this scale. I know my article is smaill, in truth I didn't realize it would be published instantly.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jay45 (talkcontribs) .

That's the joy of Wikipedia - you are free to contribute anything, and all edits show up instantly. However, there are a number of guidelines laid down about the suitability of articles. I'm afraid to say that (in my opinion), you are not notable enough to have an article on Wikipedia. However, that will be for an Administrator to decide. I'll put some guidance notes for you on your talk page — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) 21:04, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Umpqua Holdings Corporation

Hi Tivedshambo:

I am curious as to your objection to the page I created for the Umpqua Holdings Corporation. The information I have gathered for it has been properly referenced and linked to disambiguation pages and externals sources.

It is the first new page I have created; is there something else I need to do? I have tried to build the page off the template of the Citigroup reference.

Thanks for the information and removal of the deletion tag. Wikipedia certainly has a great community, as seen through my newbie eyes. — Andrew Ruess 21:42, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy Deletion

Thanks for the heads up about the speedy deletion tags, I'll be more careful in the future.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Punisher777 (talkcontribs) at 10:41 UTC, 12 September 2006.

So why are you still removing them? — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  11:51, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Hey Tived,

Two band pages I made less than 6 hours ago have been deleted. One of the bands, Dirty Brown Eye, had 2 major independent releases and toured with many signed major acts, meeting the criteria. The other band, Primer Black, has not yet released a record, but the artists in that band are from former noteable bands, which also meets the criteria. More work was going to be done on those pages, but now they are gone. I apologize for removing the speedy deletion tags, but after you explained to me how they work, I didn't touch them and now my work is gone. How can I go about retrieving what I worked on and getting these pages back up?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Punisher777 (talkcontribs) .

See Wikipedia:Undeletion policy. Can I point out that I didn't delete these pages - only an administrator can do that. You had plenty of opportunity to demonstrate notability - if you had put {{hangon}} on the pages it would have held them until you could have explained on the talk pages.
By the way, my user name is Tivedshambo, not Tived. Also, remember to sign your comments with ~~~~.

[edit] Absolute poker AfD nomination

Hi. I'd appreciate if you would read the talk page of Absolute poker, as well as my comments on the AfD page that you created. While I've never played on it, I am certainly aware that it's one of the major online sites. I'd appreciate comments on my talk page... I'm a pretty reasonable person and have fought a lot of wikiSPAM before. Please understand my stance. I agree that how it is now is spammish (hence why I put the advert and rewrite tags), but they do need to have an article (IMHO). Please discuss further. Thanks! --Storkk 22:48, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Just a thought: it might be non-obvious to find my antispam efforts just by looking at my last x# of contribs. Get the last 500, then search for the word "spam". There are more in the next 500 too. Cheers! --Storkk 23:05, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
I was wondering if you would withdraw the nomination when you get a chance, after reading the recent comments on the AfD page? Certainly, the article you nominated was absolute trash, this is no longer that article. Thanks for any reply on my talk page, Storkk 23:29, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
I'll review it tonight. No time now. — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  06:46, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talyllyn Railway map

Well done on producing an excellent map and route description for Talyllyn Railway. I hope you don't mind, but I've made a couple of small tweaks to the route description. There are also a couple of minor errors to the map: Firstly the halt is Tynllwynhen (one word, without spaces or apostophe, or y before the double-l). There's a photo of the name board in "The Talyllyn Railway in Colour, page 112, if you have a copy. Secondly, Quarry Siding should have a capital S. I hope you don't mind these criticisms, as I know how much effort is required to producing maps. — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  17:31, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Tivedshambo, thanks for your very kind words about my Talyllyn map. I'm trying to add maps for all the Welsh narrow gauge railways: you'll see them popping up as I get time to do them. So far I've got the Ffestiniog Railway, Corris Railway, Kerry Tramway and Hendre-Ddu Tramway done. I'm very glad you corrected and added to the route description to the Talyllyn article. I'm planning on expanding it further when I get time. Thanks also for the corrections to the map. I'll do another version incorporating these changes shortly. The Tynllwynhen spelling came from Boyd's "Narrow Gauge Railways in Mid Wales" which I suspect is a late Victorian version of the current spelling. I wasn't sure about Quarry Siding - glad you could correct me. All the best, Gwernol 18:24, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Further to my previous comments: coincidentally, I went to Tywyn today. I didn't have time to travel on the Talyllyn, but I did pick up a copy of the latest guide book. In that, they spell the halt with two words, i.e. Tynllwyn Hen. I suspect either is correct. — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  21:01, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I suspect its one of those names that has changed spelling considerably over time. I've got the updated Talyllyn map up (you may need to refresh the page to see it) and have also been working on some others - I particularly like the latest version of Corris Railway one. I'm jealous that you were in Tywyn - I was last there in 1999 I think. I'd love to get back soon, not to mention Corris. All the best, Gwernol 21:07, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Yes, the Corris map is very good. I hope one day the railway will be restored to cover most of the original route. They don't have much yet, but what they do have is well worth seeing. — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  21:22, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
I've been a member of the Corris Railway Society since 1978 and it always was my favorite railway. Sadly I haven't been back since they completed No. 7 so I've never seen steam at Maespoeth: I hope I can do so next year. My guess is they'll get the southward extension to Tan-y-coed completed in the next five-seven years. After that I could see a gradual extension south to Machynlleth, although re-bridging the Dyfi won't be easy. The line north of Corris to Aberllefenni is, sadly, unlikely to see trains in our lifetime though. Still, we can dream, can't we? Best, Gwernol 21:44, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of "Josh Iscovich"

What is the problem with my page onJosh Iscovich? He is an actor and has a SAG card. If there is something in particular you do not like about the article please let me know so I can make changes. Thanks for your time.

Peace, Theirishmav212

Three reasons.
  1. The page was clearly an attack on him, rather than being written from a neutral point of view. You made personal allogations which you did not or could not substantiate.
  2. The fact that he is an actor is not sufficient grounds by itself for notability.
  3. The page has already been deleted once today for the above reasons.

 — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  20:36, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

You are right and I am sorry for the trouble. I now realize that wikipedia is a serious endevour someone has taken on. It is a waste of your time to be cleaning up my mess. From now on I will only contribute to wikipedia if there is a reason and if I belive the contribution has any substance or value. Once again I am sorry.

Post Script: The article was an inside joke and the joke is over.

Theirishmav212

Thanks for your refreshingly mature response to this. I've added a standard "welcome" template at the top of this page, which will give you some background to producing articles for Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy being a Wikipedian! — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  07:02, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pikey corner

I've marked your article Pikey corner as "proposed for deletion" (prod) as I do not believe it meets the criteria for noteworthiness laid down by Wikipedia (see WP:NOTABLE). This will be for an administrator to decide when he/she reviews the prod, which will be in about 5 days time.

I'm also concerned that the article is unverifiable. Why is it called "Pikey corner"? I can find only one reference to this phrase in Google (see this link), and that is in a blog. Blogs are not usually accepted as citable evidence by Wikipedia.

Finally, does "Pikey Corner" refer only to Tescos, or any supermarket chain? If Tescos only, the article may be seen as advertising, which is also not acceptable on Wikipedia.

Please don't take these criticisms personally. As first articles go, this is a lot better than some. And perhaps there is a need for information about reduced rate shelves in the Supermarket article. But please don't refer to it as Pikey corner, unless you can produce evidence that such a term is widespread.

If you want to ask me anything more about this, need any other help, either respond below, or on my talk page. And Welcome to Wikipedia! — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  17:13, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

It is a commonly used phrase these days, generally referring to Tesco's, as they are the main supermarket chain to have a chilled reduced price food rack.
Oh, am not affiliated with Tesco's by the way. I guess I can change out the reference to tesco's imparticular.
I have asked people if they know what it means and 1/2 the people seem to know also what it is.
Its kind of a London Slang thing.
I was planning on linking it to supermarkets. How about I broaden it to all supermarkets, and then link it on the area?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jsb88 (talkcontribs) 11:10, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
It must be very localised, as I can only find one reference to it on the internet. Therefore I imagine it will not be considered notable enough for Wikipedia — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  15:48, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

very sorry if the entry appears as self-promotion, and i'm hoping you'll have some guidance to make it appear less so. i was sent email that there was an inactive link for us in the 'flux television' entry, and thought it was my responsibility to correct it. i also took the opportunity to set up supporting links w/ other wiki articles. re: satisfying the criteria for companies and corporations, i'd refer you to this link, an international list of publications not authored by twenty2product that feature the work of the company. if you still feel the article is best deleted, i'll make no more of the matter. best wishes,

[edit] Pzazz tagged per WP:CSD#A7 ?

Hi... It seems to me this article makes an assertion of importance -- "[t]hey received a considerable amount of media attention in Ireland around April/May 2006, when they appeared on several magazines, national radio, and television" -- which should render it ineligible for WP:SD. Can I ask what your rationale for WP:SDing it is? --Rrburke 16:37, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps I should have Prodded it instead of speedying it, but at the time that I added the CSD to the article, I did not feel it met WP:BAND. One single in a relatively small country.
As WP:CSD#Non-criteria says, not meeting notability guidelines doesn't make an article a candidate for WP:SD. In fact, the notabilty guidelines are unrelated to an article's eligibility for WP:SD. As long as there's an assertion of importance, even an implausible one, the article has to be Proded or AfDed. --Rrburke 17:07, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Agreed - I'll be more careful in future. Incidentally, I think the prod can come off the article now, as there seems to be citation. — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  17:23, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
