To Fill The VOID was a three piece Pop-punk/ska-punk influenced band residing in Huntington, New York. Formed by, High School Friends, Erik Salomon (Songwriter/Vocals/Guitars), Herman Isaza (drums), and Chris Feil (Bass guitar). The band played many shows throughout the Long Island area during the years of 2003 - 2004. During their short time together, they released one full length album entitled "All Else Fails...". The album was the first studio recording any of them had ever attempted. It was recorded in June of 2003, in just two days, with (than a college student himself) Alan Labiner as the recording engineer. The young band had been together for only a month at the time of the recording!
To raise money for their record, the band recorded a D.I.Y. EP entitled "One Mic and a Tape Deck" during one of their early practices. This was aptly titled, as that was all that was used to record it! Though the sound quality was atrocious, the band peddelled it to friends in exchange for donations towards recording their CD. Only about 50 copies of this EP were originally made available. It is doubtful that more than a handful are still in existence.
Despite being hometown favorites, inherent differences in musical tastes led to Chris Feil leavng the band in Early 2004, shortly after the official pressing and release of the bands record. local Reuban Santos, who's former band had recently broken up, stepped in to fill Chris' position on the bass guitar. The band continued playing shows for several more months before calling it quits for good in December of 2002. Reuban's only recording appearance in the band is in a live recording of one of the bands final shows. The recording is unofficially entitled "To Fill The VOID: Live at Stony Brook University". It was never released. The band members, and close friends are the few that may have copies of this recording.
Amongst other things, Herman Isaza has become the "go to" drummer for the Long Island punk scene. The solid/consistent technique he displayed as a member of TFTV was a stepping stone towards taking his place as one of the most saught after drummers in L.I.P.R. He has been a member, or a fill in drummer, for countless local bands, most noteably as a member of The Skum. He attends Five Towns College, studying business management and Audio recording technology. Him and Erik are still good friends, but have no plans to start another band together anytime soon. The bands two former bassists (Chris Feil and Reuban Santos) are both attending college in New York State, and as of late 2006 had not been and are not involved with any new music.
To Fill The VOID was largely the pet project of Erik Salomon (Songwriter/Vocals/Guitar). After playing on and off in basement cover bands with friends throughout his adolescent years; He decided to form his own band in order to play the music he had recently begun writing. He was a junior in High School at the time. Erik cites the To Fill The VOID record as containing the first song He ever wrote! It was appropriately placed as the first song on the album. The bands music showcases much of Erik's early songwriting. Despite his then fledgling vocals and guitar playing, listeners of To Fill The VOID are hopefully able to see the young songwriter/musician honing his skills and devloping a talent for his craft. After TFTV's breakup, Erik formed a new band named called Last years Champions]] in the fall of 2005. They are no longer together, but released one EP. The band featured some To Fill The VOID songs that never materialized and definitely represents a huge leap forward in Erik's performance and songwriting abilities. He is now attending Five Towns College, where he studies Jazz/commercial music, with concentrations in Guitar Performance and Audio Recording technology. In adition to his work producing and engineering other bands, He has slowly begun work on his first independent CD, as well as recording collaborations with other young artists.
