Toad River, British Columbia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Toad River is a highway service community in northern British Columbia, Canada, located at Mile 422 on B.C. highway 97, the Alaska Highway. The community is mainly a travel- and tourism-related stop with highway maintenance, lodging, restaurant, gas station and such services, though it does have a provincial elementary school.
The name is actually derived not from the amphibian (toad) but from the fact that during Alaska Highway construction, vehicles were towed across the river; this being the case, the spelling of Towed River would have been more accurate.[citation needed]
