Todd Kabel

Todd Kabel (born December 7, 1965 in McCreary, Manitoba) is a Canadian thoroughbred horse racing jockey. He began his career riding at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, Manitoba and in 1987 started racing at tracks in Ontario, moving to Toronto permanently in 1991.

Riding out of Woodbine Racetrack, Todd Kabel won the Sovereign Award for Outstanding Jockey in Canada in 1992 and 1995, and four years running from 2003 to 2006. In the 1997 Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Hollywood Park, Kabel rode 78-1 long shot Dawson's Legacy to a second place finish behind 1997's American Horse of the Year, Favorite Trick. In 2003 he became the first Canadian-based jockey to earn more than $10 million in purses, and in 2004 he tied the record of 36 graded stakes race wins in a season set by the late Hall of Fame jockey, Avelino Gomez. Among his major victories has been the 1995 the Queen's Plate, the country's most prestigious race. In 2000, aboard Scatter the Gold, he claimed victory in the Queen's Plate for a second time then won the Prince of Wales Stakes. However, Kabel and Scatter the Gold lost the Canadian Triple Crown when they finished third in the Breeders' Stakes.

Todd Kabel continues to race and currently has more than 3,000 career wins.
