Todman

Todman (1954-1976) is a well known Australian thoroughbred racehorse, inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2005. Todman won from 6 furlongs to 9.5 furlongs and was successful five times in races that are now classed as Group 1's. A striking chestnut stallion, Todman was one of the most exciting sprinters ever to race, he won his race debut by 10 lengths, the Golden Slipper Stakes by 8 lengths and beat the great Tulloch in the Champagne Stakes by 6 lengths. He also won the Canterbury Guineas by 8 lengths and ran record times in 7 of his 10 wins. Todman raced 12 times for 10 wins, 1 second and 1 unplaced run.
Todman was bred by Stanley Wootton at Baramul Stud in Widden Valley, Australia. By champion Australian sire Star Kingdom from the Colombo mare Oceana, Todman himself became a successful sire. He left Golden Slipper winners Eskimo Prince (1964) and Sweet Embrace (1967), Blue Diamond winners Blazing Saddles (1977) and New Gleam (1973) as well as other quality stakes winning racehorses, such as Ricochet, Imposing and Crewman.

Todman did not race as a 4yo, he broke down in the Hill Stakes and did not resume racing until just over two years later.
