Tokugawa (fiction)

Tokugawa Ieyasu and the Tokugawa clan of the Edo period of Japan has appeared in innumerable books, plays, films, television shows, manga, anime, and video games.

The history of Tokugawa's rise to power is fictionalized in James Clavell's novel Shogun. Clavell uses the name Toranaga to refer to the Tokugawa throughout his Asian Saga. Note that the book does not directly follow historical events or situations.
Kagemusha, a film by Akira Kurosawa tells a fictionalized account of the events leading up to the Battle of Nagashino.
Ieyasu appears as an evil possessed character in the samurai anime Samurai Deeper Kyo. Here, he's voiced by Koyasu Takehito.
Tokugawa Ieyasu appears in the film "Rikyu," which focuses on the life of tea master Sen no Rikyu but features Ieyasu briefly.
Tokugawa Ieyasu is the name of the ruler of Japoness in the Saber Marionette anime and manga franchise.
The manga Mister Zipangu, which, while focusing mainly on the relationship between Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, features a young Matsudaira Takechiyo (Tokugawa Ieyasu), as well.
The main character of a series of novels translated in English as Mirage of Blaze (also adapted into a manga, anime, and OAV) is a reincarnated Japanese feudal lord who has some magic power over spirits. In the anime, the main character performs a spell, the magic focus of which is Tokugawa's skull.
Ieyasu appears in Philip José Farmer's Riverworld novel The Fabulous Riverboat as a leader who allies with King John to steal Mark Twain's riverboat.
In Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, the main character, Soki (Yuki Hideyasu), is the son of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
Tetsuo Hara (from Fist of the north star fame) made a fictional manga about a body double of Tokugawa Ieyasu called Kagemusha No Tokugawa. Also Tokugawa appears in another manga made by the same artist called Hana No Keiji.
Ieyasu can be found in Sengoku Basara/Devil Kings; in the latter as Irdene. In this game, he is portrayed as a strategist who was heavily dependent on his general Honda Tadakatsu (Iron OX in Devil Kings).
The plot of the PlayStation 2 video game Kessen revolves around Tokugawa Ieyasu's rise to power.
He is also featured in Koei's Samurai Warriors series and is playable since Samurai Warriors Xtreme Legends, wielding a spear that functions as a cannon as well.
Tokugawa is the leader of Japan in the computer game Civilization III and also in the sequel, Civilization IV.
In the novel Kill the Shogun Written by Dale Furutani Tokugawa Ieyasu has just become the shogun and is starting is rule in Edo.
In the manga and anime called Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls which is set in 1614, near the end of his life, Ieyasu arranges a ninja war to determine which of the two sons of Tokugawa Hidetada would become the next shogun. Ieyasu has few appearances in the anime, but he has important expository dialogue in the first and tenth episodes and is often mentioned. He is shown as a bald, portly old man with a swollen chin and white hair.^[1]
Yoshitora Tokugawa, part of the Tokugawa clan, is a character created for the Samurai Shodown series, being the main protagonist of the fifth game of the series.
