Tom McNeeley

Thomas Tom McNeeley, Jr., was a well-known and popular heavyweight contender in the 50's and 60's. McNeeley had his first professional bout at the Norwood Stockcar Arena July 17, 1958. On on Sept. 23, 1961 McNeeley challenged Floyd Patterson for the world heavyweight championship. Tom McNeeley was on the cover of Sports Illustrated. McNeeley had a career record of 61 wins against just nine defeats. Served eight years as the boxing commissioner of the Massachusetts State Boxing Commission .
McNeeley played football for Michigan State University.
Tom McNeeley's son Peter McNeeley was the United States Boxing Federation heavyweight champion.
