Tom Simpson (politician)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thomas John Simpson (born October 14, 1948) is currently a candidate to represent the Conservative Party of Canada in Mississauga South. Born in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Tom has deep roots in Mississauga South. A descendant of the Marlatt family, Tom's ancestors first settled in Clarkson over 150 years ago. Captain John Marlatt was buried in Springcreek Cemetery in 1865, a descendant of the Huguenot French Marlat (Marlet;Merlet) family that arrived in New Amsterdam in 1662. Captain John Marlatt was a direct ancestor of Tom, and was the nephew of George Marlatt and his brother who are buried at the corner of Winston Churchill Drive and Highway 5 (Dundas) and these are considered to be among the first two United Empire Loyalist graves, dating to 1812, in Ontario.

Tom has lived and worked in Clarkson for most of his life, raising his two children here in Clarkson and has been extensively involved as a volunteer leader in local school and community support activities. Tom helped residents with their legal issues for more than 18 years as an old-fashioned community lawyer on Lakeshore Road West in Clarkson. He helped out with everything from the Parent Councils of his children’s schools, boy scouts, and youth baseball. Tom has also been a volunteer for the Waterfront Festival and the Southside Shuffle in Port Credit, and served as a counsellor for underprivileged children at the Woodgreen Community Centre in Toronto.
