Tong Fa Chorus (Traditional Chinese:桐花合唱團), officially the Hakka Tong Fa Chorus (Traditional Chinese:客家桐花合唱團), established on July 31, 2004, is the first Taiwanese-Hakka chorus in the Greater Washington area. It has performed at the East Coast Taiwanese Summer Camp as well as for various Hakka Association and Taiwanese Association related events.
Tong Fa literally means tung blossom in Hakka
[edit] Tung blossom
The tung blossom represents the Hakka in Taiwan. Every year in May, in areas such as Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli, the flower can be seen in full bloom. Their beauty is more than one can take in. They are also known as the "Snow in May," meaning that they have the appearance of a flurry of snowflakes. As a result, Taiwanese people celebrate the Tung Blossom Festival every year.
