Topham Beauclerk

Topham Beauclerk (December 22, 1739 - March 11, 1780) was an English nobleman, the only son of Lord Sidney Beauclerk, a special favourite of Dr. Johnson.
Note: Topham Beauclerk [last name pronounced "Bo-Clare"] pops up a few times in Boswell's Life of Johnson. When Beauclerk was on his deathbed, Boswell writes: << His affection for Topham Beauclerk was so great, that when Beauclerk was labouring under that severe illness which at last occasioned his death, Johnson said, (with a voice faultering with emotion,) “Sir, I would walk to the extent of the diameter of the earth to save Beauclerk.”’ >>
Beauclerk was born in Of Ardglass Castle, Down, Ireland and christened on January 19, 1740, in St. James's Westminister.
On March 12, 1768, he married Diana Spencer. They had four children:
- Daughter [sic] Beauclerk (born around 1764)
- Elisabeth Beauclerk (August 20, 1766 - March 25, 1793)
- Anne Mary Beauclerk, twin of Elisabeth (August 20, 1766 - 1851)
- Charles George Beauclerk (January 20, 1774 - December 25, 1846)
Beauclerk died in his House at Great Russel-Street, Bloomsbury. [in 1780]
