Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing, or TIGER, or TIGER/Line is a format used by the United States Census Bureau to describe land attributes such as roads, buildings, rivers, and lakes. The data can be used by GIS applications and is available without cost due to the requirement for U.S. Government publications to be released into the Public Domain. TIGER maps issued through February 2007 (2006 Second Edition) are in a custom format, while future editions will be issued in shapefile and web-compatible formats; see the US Census page on the future of TIGER data for more information.
[edit] Coverage
The TIGER/Line data includes complete coverage of the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Midway Islands.
