Hi. I just thought I'd notify you that I've removed the gallery of single covers from the I'd Like To article because such galleries are not permitted under Wikipedia's copyright policies. Wikipedia:Fair use criteria states "The amount of copyrighted work used should be as little as possible ... Do not use multiple images or media clips if one will serve the purpose adequately", and "The material must contribute significantly to the article (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and must not serve a purely decorative purpose". So inserting into articles a gallery or column of copyrighted images such as single covers does not qualify as "fair use". I noticed you do a lot of work on song articles so I just thought I'd explain that in case other users remove some of the single covers from articles you're watching. Also, on an unrelated note, could you please provide an edit summary when performing major edits? Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 22:04, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

The thing is that somebody can change, delete or put something in an article that is against the policies or guidelines, but it isn't removed for whatever reason (e.g. no-one familiar with the policies and guidelines noticed it had been added), and then someone else decides to add it to another article (or articles), and then somebody else reads those...you get the idea :). It's the same situation with the multiple single and album covers.

I'd say that in certain circumstances more than one cover can be added, but I think it should be placed in a section of the article where it will be accompanying text that is related to it. To take another Corinne Bailey Rae song as an example: "Like a Star" (one of my favourites of hers!) had two separate releases, which have their own separate sections in the Like a Star article. The cover for the original release would count as "fair use" in the section in which there is information on the original release, and the cover for the re-release would count as "fair use" in the section on the re-release. But if either of the covers was in a section such as "Credits" at the bottom of the article, where there isn't any information related to the release of the single, it wouldn't count as "fair use". And then there's the thing about not using three or four covers to represent each separate single release of the song when one will do. So, I'd suggest adding more than one cover to the article if you think it makes a significant contribution to the article and doesn't just serve as decoration.

If some parts of the above sound like I'm spelling out the obvious, it's only because other users in the past have had trouble understanding my explanations. I think it's all quite complicated, but I understand the concerns about copyrights and such, so I suppose it makes Wikipedia better to know about this stuff.

By the way, you don't have to write out your username and the time and date manually. It will appear automatically when you type in four tildes, like this: ~~~~, which becomes Extraordinary Machine 19:16, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, the "alternative single covers" section is presenting the images in essentially the same way as a gallery, so I'd probably say no, the extra covers probably shouldn't be included there (unless, as I said, the alternative cover represents something completely different from what the main one does, such as a re-release of the single). Well, I think that though double A-sides have many things in common (e.g. track listings, chart positions), there are things such as the different styles and themes of the songs (information on which isn't included in the Winehouse song articles right now, but could be included in the future) that would be more appropriately covered in separate articles. But I forgot to split "You Sent Me Flying" off to its own article, and I've just done so, at You Sent Me Flying. Extraordinary Machine 21:22, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
