Toyger
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Toyger cats are a striped breed domestic cat hybrid. The aim was to cross these cats to produce a striped 'toy tiger' as the coat pattern is reminiscent of the tiger's striping. The breed's creator, Judy Sudgen, has stated that the breed was developed in order to inspire people to care about the conservation of tigers in the wild. [1]
The Toyger is a breed in development. It is recognized only by TICA being accepted there for Registration Only in the early 1990's and Preliminary New Breed in 2000.
The new breed was featured in a February 2007 LIFE magazine article entitled Meet the Toyger, America's next superpet.[2]
