[edit] History
Everybody categorized Tranzas as a group from the 80’s, because they became popular in Guayquil in 1987 with their famous song “Plastica”. This song was about women’s obsession of looking good and how shallow they were. In that time, the band was made up of 4 guys. However, in 1988, when they published their first album, “Sueño Astral”, the singer left the band and just three of them remained. This made Douglas to become the singer and leader of the band. Later, in 1990, when rap was the popular genre in radios, Tranzas reduced even more because the guy who played the drums, decided to leave the band. By then, they were just two, who played with an invited drummer (Willie Wong). Tranzas was considered like a group of rock-pop music, but created romantic songs and gained a lot of fame with them. In that year, (1994) they decided to send a disc MIX (acetate) titled "A Marte". This disc, includes "Dime si recuerdas", a very popular video, that lead them to high levels of popularity in the country. In 1995, they published "Ciertas Teorias", in which they included their classic singles. A year later, in 1995, Tranzas returns to be a quartet, with Alfonso Vélez (drummer) and Alberto Vicuña (tecladista). Their smash hit “Un Nuevo amor” held the top airplay position for eight months, which led to the band’s success within the latin & US markets by selling over 100.000 units worldwide. Earlier this year Tranzas was signed to independent label AD records and are currently promoting their recent album “Mori” throughout the US including Puerto Rico & South America. Emi signed Tranzas for a Co-publishing deal. Emi controls a 100% of Mori.
