Talk:True metal

Heh, anyone else get here from the 'heavy metal genres' page?
I've removed this for NPOV reasons:
"It is worth noting that this is a distinction held by the metal community at large, and that those who feel that Nu-metal and Alternative metal are literally legitimate metal genres are a stubborn minority."
If there's been some kind of mass survey of the metal community regarding the legitimacy of nu/alt metal as subgenres I'd love to see it. Especially in regards to how they've quantified 'stubborness'.
It's pretty simple; no metalhead will ever call a nu-metal or alt-metal band a real metal band, because if they did, then they wouldn't be a metalhead so much as they would be one of those undiscerning boneheads who adore any kind of music centered around a distorted guitar, regardless of the musical structure of the band in question. Comment stands.
Nu-metal and Metalcore aren't even true types of metal. They are forms of rock, despite the misnomer of 'metal' in the name 'nu-metal' In Flames 19:55, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
Agreed, stubborn may have been a little strong, but the chances that you find a metalhead who agrees with nu-metal being a metal style are practically nihil. Pretty much the same for alt metal. Both have exceptions though. Anthrax could be considered the nu-metal founder, yet they are a pure metalband. Metalcore is disputable though
