I've read about Turkey Drives in the USA, where thousands of turkeys were rounded up and 'shepherded' to big cities in time time for Thanksgiving etc. Does anyone know whether Turkey Street was on one of these routes?

- I very much doubt it as it is in London in the UK.

- The turkey thing could have happened in the UK although it's a small road and I expect moving turkeys would have been done on bigger roads like Holloway Road which has the above explantion for its name. Also Turkey Street doesn't really go anywhere. I was given the following explanation but I can't find evidence. Around or along Turkey Street there used to be a prison. Relating to the locks on cells, there was an expression Turn Key which was then abbreviated to Turkey. Unfortunately I can't find anything to verify this so it needs a little more investigating. I expect this all happened before the 1700s as it was called Turkey Street by then. Rogwan 15:47, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
