Turkey Point, Ontario

Turkey Point is a village in the former township of Charlotteville in what is now Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada. It is located on Long Point Bay south of Highway 24 on Regional Road 10, southwest of Simcoe.

Turkey Point was originally settled by Frederick and Levinah Mabee in 1793. Lieutenant Governor John Graves Simcoe named Turkey Point while travelling through the area in 1795 because of the abundance of wild turkeys. The Mabees turned the land over to the government of Upper Canada for a naval establishment which was never developed and the land remained reserved by the government until the mid-1800s.

Today Turkey Point is known for its expensive beach and cottage areas, although it has recently become the site of many year-round homes. Recreational activities include fishing, skiing, tubing, swimming, and sailing. An sailing regatta is held annually, usually at the end of August. This event is organized by the Black Rock Club, which is based out of a cottage built in the early 20th century.

Local businesses in Turkey Point include The Turkey Point Shopping Centre, which started as a small candy store, McCraes Landing (a french fry stand), an arcade, a hotel and bar, the Green Booth (an ice cream store), and the Wishing Well, which rents water trampolines.Also the first and second sandbars which are restaurants/bars.
