Tyne-Tees derby

The Tyne-Tees derby (also known as the North East derby) is a term which is often applied to matches between Newcastle United and Middlesbrough.
Although often billed as a derby by the media, many people in the area dispute that this is the case. Many Newcastle fans feel that a match against a team 40 miles away does not qualify as a local derby, and believe that Newcastle's only derby is the Tyne-Wear derby with Sunderland.
