U.S. Route 66 Alternate (Joliet, Illinois)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alternate US Highway 66 was designated in 1940 when a new alignment of Route 66 opened, passing through Plainfield, Illinois and bypassing Joliet. Alternate US 66 branched off the main route near Romeoville and headed south, finally rejoining the main route at Gardner. Its total length was about 40 miles. The highway is now designated Illinois Route 53. The later "main" alignment of US 66 is near (and in some cases under) Interstate 55.
