[edit] new format

IMHO, this new format is crap. It is not in alphabetical order, and the wikicode is too complicated to correct it. Can someone please put it in alphabetical order, or else we're being penny-wise, pound-foolish. DJR (talk) 16:19, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

forget it, i'm in the process of doing it. DJR (talk) 16:32, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Format change & possible mistakes

I've changed the format to make it easier to edit individual columns of the template. While doing so I checked against the lists of 5-star stadiums (two slightly different ones are available from [1] and [2]) and I noticed that some of the stadiums listed on this template are not in those lists. These are:

  • San Siro
  • Stadio Olimpico
  • Allianz Arena
  • Signal Iduna Park
  • Sükrü Saracoglu Stadium
  • Estadio Santiago Bernabeu

Of course, the lists there may be out of date or mistaken. Can anyone supply me with a reliable source that say these are on the 5-star list? Else I will remove them. Qwghlm 23:05, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

As no-one responded with a more authoritative source I have updated the template to match the source. Qwghlm 20:44, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Signal Iduna was added in 2006, when renovations/expansions were completed... As far as I know... I'll look for some more sources though. -newkai t-c 13:30, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Şükrü Saraçoğlu Staduim's reconstruction was completed nearly two years ago. After the building process ended, supervisors from UEFA came to check the stadium if this made according to UEFA criterions. After this visit Şükrü Saraçoğlu named as a 5-star rated stadium and given the chance to host UEFA final organizations(The first one will be the 2008 UEFA Cup final, if the request will be accepted). With respect, Deliogul 09:15, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
It sounds plausible but you need to cite a source that says it has been granted certification. Qwghlm 09:54, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
(no old list. Fenerbahce Sükrü Saracoglu Stadium UEFA-5 star STADIUM) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.99.174.150 (talk • contribs) 20:40, September 17, 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Format change & possible mistakes

Can you show me any source about included 5-star stadiums? There are no sources. We just know they match with the UEFA requirements because of the information provided online. I dont like this new list at all... I want the old list uploaded back again. ltimur

I give sources above - the first link I supplied [3] has now been deleted unfortunately, but [4] still exists and provides a detailed list that cites UEFA. I can't find any official document on UEFA.com so the second link is the best guide I have. What problem did you have with the new list, specifically? Qwghlm 07:50, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
There is also this list [5] but it is less detailed than the German one and does not cite its sources - it is the same but also includes San Siro and the Bernabeu, but I can't find any evidence that either stadium is definitely 5-star. Qwghlm 07:52, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Buddy here is the link [6] as you see Fenerbahce Stadium which is Sukru Saracoglu stadium is one of the six candidate stadiums to host 2008 UEFA CUP final. I know UEFA allows only 5-star stadiums for this venue. Only reason why Sukru Saracoglu stadium was not included in the list you provided above ,is that the renovations have just ended in 2006. I am re-editing and including the Fenerbahce stadium (which I am a big fan of)in the UEFA 5-star football stadia list. Any one who has an objection send me a message through my profile page. I have more proofs for you. ltimur 11 September 2006

(a) A stadium only has to be 4-star rated to host the UEFA Cup Final and (b) Certification only takes place after a club applies to host a final. I need better proof than the above, so I'm reverting your edit - if you can find an actual news item that explicitly states the Sukru Saracoglu stadium has been given a rating by UEFA's Stadia Committee, then supply it, but don't add it on the basis of conjecture. Qwghlm 07:35, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry man...After all your objections now it is proven that Sukru saracoglu is 5-star. http://english.sabah.com.tr/C06C873B3E5341AF9834C75B86B7DB26.html Now you decide what is basis of conjecture. ltimur

[edit] Fenerbahce Sukru Saracoglu Stadium 5 Star

Turkish offical Newspaper source:

http://www.milliyet.com.tr/2006/07/11/son/soneko05.asp —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.99.173.84 (talk • contribs) 17:56, September 16, 2006 (UTC).

I can't read Turkish, unfortunately, so I can't understand what is exactly being said in the text. Also it looks like the article has used this Wikipedia template as a source, since it lists Wembley Stadium at the end as 5-star, as the old version did. This is clearly wrong since Wembley is not even open and operational as a stadium yet. So I'm sorry but I don't think whoever wrote that article had their facts right. Qwghlm 18:15, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

4-star = 49.999 and under 5-star = 50.000 and up

Fenerbahce sukru saracoglu = Capacity 52,500 = 5-star —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.99.175.228 (talk • contribs) 11:40, September 18, 2006 (UTC).

Not all 50,000+ stadia are rated 5-star, e.g. Celtic Park - see Talk:Celtic Park for a past similar discussion. Qwghlm 12:21, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] San Siro and Olimpico

Firstly the San Siro. The San Siro went under small renovations over the past 2 seasons meaning that it temporarily lost its 5 star rating. This has been resumed and that list must be old. On the Olimpico. How can it not be a 5 star stadium if it has just been awarded the 2009 Champions League final ? Niall123 00:31, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Croke Park in Dublin

Is there no official list of 5-Star Rated Stadia? UEFA recently visited Croke Park in Dublin to rate it for the first time as it is normally used for Gaelic Games and I believe that it was awarded a 5-Star rating but I can't find confirmation of this anywhere. THe stadium itself seems to fit all the criteria. Can anyone help? Saluedo

[edit] Celtic Park in Scotland

I have put Celtic Park in the List as on this page [7] it is said to be 5 star under scottish hospitality

Removed (again) per 99% of evidence. Some proof of official correspondence from UEFA or Celtic would be good. Archibald99 16:25, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Estadi Montjuïc...

What is referred to in this page as Estadi Montuïc, is referred to on it's own page as Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys ... as the wiki code was referred to (ok, separate note: this user likes the word referred, as it can be used to refer to it's own reference) earlier in this talk page as something near impossible to decode, someone who is gifted should fix this anomaly The Hemogoblin 06:45, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] (New) Wembley

Is there any evidence that the new Wembley has been awarded 5-star status yet? - fchd 11:51, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

There isnt any evidence referenced, so Wembley should be removed. For Wembley (indeed for any stadium) to be given a star rating it needs to apply to host the final of a UEFA tournament. I dont know if Wembley has, it could well have. Willy turner 22:15, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
There seems to be a concerted campaign by an IP abuser to add Wembley, and Emirates, neither with any supporting references, despite many, many requests. This template must be semi-protected if this continues. --Mais oui! 07:02, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
The FA bid for the 2007 Champions' League Final to be held at Wembley in 2004, before it got delayed by another year. See this link for the Wembley press release. IMHO there's no question that Wembley is a 5* venue, although it is clear that the Emirates is not necessarily in the same boat. DJR (T) 07:39, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
My understanding is that a stadium can only be considered for 5 star status after it has hosted a major final, not before. Again, may I repeat, we need rock solid external sources which state beyond all doubt that UEFA officially designate Wembley as 5 star, as per WP:CITE and WP:RS. No ifs, no buts: no citation means no entry as 5 star in Wikipedia. --Mais oui! 07:43, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
No that is not true - the Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna has not hosted a major final since the 5* rating system was introduced, but is nonetheless a 5* stadium. Similarly, Ibrox has never hosted a major final in any way, shape or form. On this basis, it is quite clear that you can be considered for 5 star status before hosting a major final. However, if we're going down the definitive citation rule, it should be done for every entry on this page - not just a requirement for Wembley. DJR (T) 07:54, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Of course it should!!! Why, are you saying that there are other entries on this template lacking solid proof? If so, they must go! No debate whatsoever. Do UEFA not publish a definitive list? Seems very odd if they do not. --Mais oui! 08:09, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Well exactly - UEFA are a very odd organisation. In the long history of this template there have been countless attempts to get UEFA to produce, or at least e-mail someone, a definitive list of 5* stadia. Unfortunately, no such lists appear to exist - a Google search will reveal a few unofficial pages but nothing citable. DJR (T) 02:04, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
