[edit] Enrollment

For some reason, the enrollment numbers for the school never were correct in some areas of the page; the correct enrollment numbers have been placed on the page from the official Facts About UCF webpage. In light of this, I have also updated our population ranking in the state and in the nation in the appropriate areas. Prototime

Probably, those figures were just outdated. M412k 04:51, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pegasus Connection

Seeing as I now have had to revert the "Communities" section twice, I would like to make clear that Pegasus Connection is NOT a housing community affiliated with the university. It is owned by College Park Communities, which also owns Pegasus Pointe and Pegasus Landing which ARE affiliated with the university, but College Park Communties does not have such an agreement with the university for Pegasus Connection; Pegasus Connection stands alone. This is represented on the official websites for these communities; Pegasus Pointe and Pegasus Landing both clearly have "UCF Affiliated Housing" listed on the title of their pages, whereas the website for Pegasus Connection does not have this at all. Protime 12:18 (EST), 17 February 2006

It would probably be better to re-word the intro with all the enrollment stuff. It sounds sophmoric and obsessive to talk about who has the most students. Enrollment is not an indicator of quality. Be more clear and concise, mentioning enrollment and rankings only once, maybe twice.

[edit] Podcast

I currently run the UCF Digital Media department's podcast, and I am almost dead certain that the claim that it inspired iTunes to start the iTunes University program is completely fictional. I have, accordingly, removed that from the Trivia section. I've left in the other reference to the podcast but I have removed Brett Thomason's name from it. He graduated nearly two years ago and only briefly had any affiliation with the UCF DM Podcast. His addition to the page was self-serving and misplaced egotism.

The part about the podcast being the first in the nation and being accredited by Apple, that remains patently false until I see proof. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Keshiklabs (talk • contribs) 15:54, 7 March 2007 (UTC).

[edit] UCF Seal

Does anyone have the UCF seal that has the pegasus in the middle surrounded by the university name and founding year? Pretty much every school has their seal on their respective articles and I feel that the UCF logo we are using is a little out of place. Something like this (http://www.iroffice.ucf.edu/images/factbooks/original_university_seal.gif) but with UCF's current name. Gonk

IIRC, the official seal imprinted on all correspondence and business cards includes simply the stylized pegasus. The BS/BA diploma, however, has the seal as described. I can scan in my diploma, but how could we cite the photo? (OT, but there is now a UCF userbox available, if you're into that kind of thing. See Wikipedia:Userboxes/Education/United_States) JaKaL! 19:44, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

It should be noted that noted that University of Central Florida Marketing has recently made numerous branding changes to the logo, motto, color scheme (this may mean that "black and gold" is no longer accurate), et cetera. I don't know all of the specifics, but some information is available here: http://www.umark.ucf.edu/ . It may be beneficial to contact them and ask what the "party line" is. Additionally, they can probably provide you with an image of the seal and logo.

[edit] Football

What do you guys want to do with the football article? It is constantly changing because the season is still in progress. I'm for removing the O'leary quote and the link to the non-existant UCF Football wikipedia entry. What do you guys want to do? Any ideas? ~~hectorhector

I cleaned it up a little bit and was surprised to find that O'Leary didn't have an article of his own (I changed that.) I think we should remove the quote as well and I have no problem updating the section as the season progresses. Gonk

[edit] Vandalism

Does anyone know how to ban a user? The user: 65.15.137.34 keeps defacing the page.

I'm pretty sure it has to be done by an administrator. I'm not exactly sure how you report people though.Tommstein 06:27, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Updates

Someone just updated something about the radio station, although I am not completely sure of the facts they put forth, I believed some students still worked for the station. Does anyone know if the latest update is completely factual, or just a student who used to work for the station and is upset? Matthewvelie 23:47, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Athletics

There is not currrently a section for athletics for the university. I personally do not know a bunch about the different athletics at the university, but I believe a section shoul dbe made talking about the different sports that we have at the unversity. Most of the sports are usually in the top 10 and it now appears that football might be coming back.

Added! - Hectorhector

[edit] Pictures

I believe the Business Administration picture should be replaced with a picture that is current of one of the buildings, that picture is at least 5 years old. Business Administration II now sits in the place where that picture was taken. - Matthewvelie

If you have a camera, that picture can be yours! Even my best telephoto lens won't reach from Canberra, so it should really be someone local. Do you need help in uploading a pic? Pete 03:22, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I can do it, I just wanted other people's opinions on it before I changed it. The page shouldn't be an ad for the University but I believe the pictures should be current Matthewvelie 20:45, Jun 21, 2005 (UTC)

Go for it... I was the one who originally put the photos on the page, which I got from UCF.edu - Gonk

The page is still lacking in pictures. I'm no photographer, but I'll be back on the campus in a few weeks and I'll try to get some suitable pictures. M412k 04:50, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

University of Central Florida Marketing maintains a repository of images located here: http://photofile.ucf.edu/ . I believe that some of them (certainly not all of them) are public domain.

[edit] Stadium

Okay, my earlier revision of "new stadium" to "proposed stadium" was reverted. The UCF News Site states that is still proposed (NOT part of the master plan yet), and the BoT still hasn't put its seal of approval on it. I'm changing it back to "proposed" due to this obvious nature of this article. - Zacwest

Fair enough, however by now this talk is old since the stadium is no longer proposed, but approved and currently under construction. While I don't feel it's nessecary to delete this section; it's currently irrelevant. --Glen 06:31, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Endowment

I don't think this university has such a large endowment. this shows it being around 50 million which is more reasonable. Kushboy 21:32, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

I agree, however the UCF webpage gives a more recent number of $70,528,212 as of 2004-06-30. Zac West 23:38, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

Well, according to the College of Engineering, UCF recently passed the $100 million mark in research funding. I'm pretty sure research funding is included in a school's endowment. Let me know if I'm wrong.

[edit] FA Status?

Anybody think we may be getting close to submitting this for peer review? Looking at other FAs in the education category, we probably will need to include some citation in order to get any sort of notice. Also, if we had any information on the remote campuses (Downtown Orlando, Lake Mary, Daytona Beach, etc.), specifically what sorts of classes are offered and enrollment statistics, that would be helpful. If anyone is interested, I'd like some aid in clearing up some of this stuff and submitting the article for peer review. For reference's sake, the article University of Michigan recieved FA status. There are several others in the Education category that have passed muster too that we can use as guidelines. The real tough part is going to be building a bibliography. I can tackle some of that given some time. Who's with me? - JaKaL! 15:52, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

  • I don't really think we're at that point yet. This article has definitely improved a lot from what it was, but it still doesn't seem as organized and polished as a featured article should be. Don't get me wrong- I'd love to see this as a featured article, being a current UCF student who feels that his school is underrated, and I think that this should be a goal; although, I must admit, I'm not exactly sure what needs to be done to get there. M412k 21:16, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
    • Agreed. Maybe a to-do list is in order. I'll put that down on my to-do list ;) JaKaL! 02:12, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Possible New Sections

I think new sections should possibly be added. Campus clubs like Greek Orgs, student clubs, etc. and links as well as possible descriptions of common events like Late Knights or CAB events. --Glen 06:34, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] To split or not to split

This article is getting fairly large and arguably somewhat ungainly. Can we possibly split this up? Should we? I think we should be working toward making this a featured article candidate; how would a split affect this? Sections that could possibly be spun off IMO are athletics and history. Housing section is getting large but doesn't seem significant enough for an article. Maybe the Rosen College of Hospitality could be a separate article eventually also.

However, this is not imperative right now. I'm just throwing it out there because the system complains to me every time I edit the page that it's possibly getting too large. It seems very possible that this may be a good thing to do eventually.

Incidentally, I redirected UCF to this page... don't think anyone will object. M412k 04:42, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Have a look at the University of Michigan's article. It's enormous and it's been granted FA status. I think that everything should remain where they are. If anything, stuff may need to be expanded beyond what they are now. JaKaL! 02:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] UCF football team merge

I noticed that it was suggested that University of Central Florida football team be merged into this article. I don't think that the football team deserves its own article, really, but I don't think we can merge it into this article cleanly. So, I have a counter suggestion- create a new article for UCF athletics, merge in the football team article, the athletics section from this article, and probably Spirit splash. I don't really have the time to do this correctly right now, but I'll look into it later. Any opinions on this idea?M412k 04:57, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ranking

Does anyone know how the college ranks in the 2006 U.S. News & World Report of Best Colleges? Florida State has this on their page and it is helpful.

The University of Central Florida ranks as a third tier university. Number ranks are only given to those schools ranked 1 through 124. Those schools ranked 125-180 are considered third tier and do not have a specific rank. These schools are just listed alphabetically on the report. Schools ranked in 4th tier are also listed alphabetically and do not have a set rank. Hope this helps.

[edit] U Can't Finish?

Is there a consensus on whether this should be in the article or not? Seems POV to me. Maximumlobster 14:31, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Not only is it kind of POV, it's not even that notable. All the state schools in Florida have similar acronyms (USF: U Stay Forever, UWF: U Won't Finish, etc etc). I say leave it out. It's not really contributing anything. Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 14:33, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't think it's really a problem to mention it in the Trivia section, but I don't think it's a big deal either way. I'm game for whatever the consensus is. –Prototime (talkcontribs) 16:00, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
It's a well known enough nickname that I'd think it would be notable at least for trivia. Nicknames gennerally have some truth to them somewhere that help to tell about the school. As for POV I don't think it is. Whether or not one feels one 'can finish' or not is irrelevant to the fact that the nickname is well known by people who both agree and disagree with it's usage. It is in declining use though from what I can tell, so in a few years it might be more of history than triva. GromXXVII 16:13, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
I agree with this point. This little tidbit of information is by definition trivia. That would be a good place to put it, if at all. JaKaL! 11:24, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
I concur! PlaydoughRevisited 01:46, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] School of Film and Digital Media Bias?

Does it seem strange to anyone that the School of Film and Digital Media section includes the line "which supplies graduates to companies such as the Walt Disney Company and Lockheed Martin"? I'm sure you could argue successfully that many of the departments at the UCF campus supply plenty of graduates to Walt Disney Company and Lockheed Martin. What does everyone think? My opinion is that the line should be removed.

I believe I put that line in there because it was was mentioned in the 2005 UCF Catalog. However, I see your point and wouldn't mind it being removed. –Prototime (talkcontribs) 18:44, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Alright, I'm going to remove it then. Thanks.

[edit] Famous Alumnus?

Are we in agreement that Michael Thomas Dunn is not a famous alumnus? He keeps spamming the page with his name. Maximumlobster 16:32, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

I searched for "Michael Thomas Dunn" on Google and it came up with a page about him. Under biography, it does state that he attended the University of Central Florida. Whether the site is legitimate or not, I don't know. After further researching Michael Thomas Dunn, it can be proved that he did, in fact, attend UCF and that he is, in fact, an actor. Therefore, it would be safe to say that he is, in fact, a famous alumnus.
Many people claim to be actors, but few of these people are actually famous. Michael Thomas Dunn has already been determined to be a non-notable subject based on Wikipedia's notablity guidelines. The AFD discussion for his article can be found here. Also, please refer to Help:Talk page for proper formatting of discussions. Tsimshatsui 02:42, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Motto?

Has UCF's motto actually changed to "Stands for Opportunity"? I could have thought "Reach for the Stars" is still the school motto. My impression of whats listed is that it is the current marketing theme.

Both mottos are used. I was going to put both on but I am very bad at editing on Wikipedia. Orlandocollegestudent 23:06, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Orlandocollegestudent

UCF is currently running television and radio ads with the "stands for opportunity" logo, and it now seems to be the prefered logo used in official handbooks/viewbooks/brochures. 68.157.60.195

[edit] Picture

I have a Rosen picture that I want to add. Could someone let me know how to do so? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Orlandocollegestudent (talk • contribs) 23:08, 1 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] A point of interest: Playboy, Honors Congress, NORML & SDS

Though, not maybe the best thing to associate with a college, PlayBoy came to do a photo shoot at UCF Fall Semester 2006. The Central Florida Future has a very good article on this.

Also, UCF has a very active Honors Congress, NORML and Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) groups. Are these pertinent enough to make an extension article or articles on their own? I think so, but I wanted some feedback.

  • An extension article seems too much. I don't see why you wouldn't just add this to the main article. Make sure that it's NPOV too- NORML and SDS cause more than their share of trouble around campus. M412k 07:52, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Maybe that means they are notable???68.157.60.195 02:54, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
