Unifon

Unifon is a phonetic alphabet for English developed by John Malone in the 1950's. It was developed as a pedagogical aid for helping children acquire reading skills, as it creates a much closer connection between the written word and its pronunciation than does standard English spelling. Several new characters were introduced that corresponds to phonemes in English that are written with multiple letters in standard English spelling.
