University Place (Television Series)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
University Place is an original hour-long drama following the lives of six very different people in the midst of their collegiate career in New York City.
The story focuses on Nola Deepali, a first generation Indian-American who goes against her parents and transfers out of her economics major into dance. Suddenly cut off financially, Nola is on her own, alone in a city full of strangers.
All the while recent transfer Craig Mickles, a kind hearted geek must hide his affection for Nola, as she has fallen in love with his best friend and roommate, the confident and handsome Steve Davis. Craig finds his ear in Meg Ross, Nola’s former roommate and recent college drop-out.
Down the hall, Nola’s RA, Jeremy Browder, a gay political science major, rides the line between what is right and what is easy as he uses those around him to further his career. His former close friend, Lillian Schwartz, a power hungry, sexually driven heiress (and Steve’s secret lover), is doing all she can to hinder Jeremy and advance her own ambitions.
These characters are surrounded by their friends and lovers who will help define the tumultuous four years of their lives at college. There is the sexually veracious roommate, the drunk jock buddies, the feminist professor, the bitchy dancer, and the gay mayor’s son.
In the tradition of such shows as Felicity and the cult favorite Undeclared, University Place will examine both the inherent drama of the human comedy that is college. Following the makings, and the breakings, of relationships, both plutonic and romantic, we will see our characters grow and change over the course of the show. They will learn and love, and some might not make it to graduation day. With New York City as the backdrop, the characters will be placed in a realistic world, that can be both wonderful and treacherous, and will set the show apart from any other past college dramas.
University Place is the story of growth, of defining one’s self and becoming the person you were destined to be. It will face the darker realities of the world with a smile, taking our characters, and our audience, on an emotional roller-coaster, dragging them through the mud before lifting them up into the sun.
University Place is created, written, directed, starring and produced by the undeniably talented students of NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
