The University of Wisconsin-Stout (also known as UW-Stout) is a member campus of the University of Wisconsin System. The school was founded in 1891 in Menomonie, Wisconsin and enrolls more than 8,400 students. It is one of only two universities in the UW System not named for the city in which it is located,(The other is UW-Parkside) and the only one named in honor of an individual, its founder James Huff Stout.
University of Wisconsin-Stout is a comprehensive, career-focused polytechnic university where students, faculty and staff use applied learning, scientific theory and research to solve real-world problems, grow the state’s economy and serve society. UW-Stout offers 30 undergraduate majors, 16 graduate majors, and two advanced graduate majors. UW-Stout's programs prepare students for productive careers in industry, commerce, education, human development through the study of technology, applied mathematics and science, art and design, business, industrial management, human behavior, family and consumer sciences, and manufacturing-related engineering and technologies.
UW-Stout's sports teams are the Blue Devils and school colors are navy blue and white. UW-Stout competes in the WIAC in NCAA Division III.
In 2001, UW-Stout was the first university to receive the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
UW-Stout's Men's Rugby Club, founded in 1978, is one of the most successful rugby programs in the Midwest, having advanced to the Midwest Final Four five of the past six seasons.
