Universum (Science Center)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In September 2000, the Universum Science Center opened in proximity of the University of Bremen. The exhibition is concerned with three topic areas on 4000 m² - Expedition Mankind, Expedition Earth and Expedition Cosmos. The visitors are encouraged to have a go at most of the approx. 250 exhibits themselves. The building, which is to resemble a mixture of whale and shell, was developed by the architect Thomas Klumpp of Bremen.
As the numbers of visitors were declining after the opening and necessecary re-investments could not be financed, the city of Bremen had to take over the science center, and it is managed by the city since 2006.
