Untertorbrücke

The Untertorbrücke is the oldest bridge in Bern still in existence. The first version of the bridge, which was more like a wooden walkway, was built in 1256 but was washed away in a flood in 1460. A little after a year, the bridge as it is seen today was built. It took about 30 years and has since been restored several times. When the Nydeggbrücke opened in parallel to the Untertorbrücke in 1844, traffic crossing the Untertorbrücke greatly decreased, but it is still used today.
