Vaelastrasz the Corrupt

Vaelastrasz the Corrupt is the second boss in Blackwing Lair, a 40-man raid instance dungeon in World of Warcraft. Vaelastrasz is an elder dragon, member of the Red Dragonflight, who sought to defeat Nefarian himself, but has succumbed to Nefarian's control and is now driven to slay those heroes whom he previously helped. Vaelastrasz makes an appearance in shade form in upper Blackrock Spire during the Rend Blackhand encounter if a player uses their Seal of Ascension on the corpse of Rend's chromatic mount, Gyth, in which he verbally threatens Nefarian, heals the raid, and assists in killing Rend.

Vaelastrasz is an encounter requiring a combination of high damage output, threat control, and coordination. It is often considered the most 'fun' encounter in Blackwing Lair due to the fast-paced, intense, and sometimes random battle style. The objective of the battle is to kill Vaelastrasz (commonly called 'Vael') within a 3 minute time period before the battle become 'un-winnable' and all members of the raid are killed. Vaelastrasz is considered one of the harder bosses to defeat at first - it usually takes a long time until a raid is able to slay him.
