[edit] Difficult

The article did read "Most notably directors Ron Howard (Willow) and John Frankenheimer (Batman Forever) spoke out that he was hard to work with." I changed it to read "Joel Schumacher (Batman Forever)" for the simple reason that Schumacher directed the film, not Frankenheimer. However, Kilmer did work with Frankenheimer, but on the film The Island of Dr. Moreau. So which was right--the film or the director? --KQ

I'm afraid I can't be much help here. My participation on this article was only a minor incidental housekeeping one related to cleaning up Batman links. Otherwise I'm clueless about this issue. This kind of question is consistent with what I had in mind when I tried to give life to the Nupedia mailing list on film. Eclecticology
Thanks for the reminder. I just posted about that. --KQ 01:11 Oct 17, 2002 (UTC)
Well, I still don't know, haven't found out, am removing it for fear it's incorrect. --KQ
All three of the directors in the films mentioned found it hard to work with him... however others found it easy (e.g. Oliver stone - The Doors). Swedishdave

[edit] Graffitti in Toronto

What of the Val Kilmer heads adorning buildings all over downtown Toronto? It's a citywide enigma with some serious recognition.

http://shufler.livejournal.com/294937.html this should explain things Swedishdave 13:08, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

read this: http://www.nowtoronto.com/issues/2005-01-20/news_story.php [it debunks the shufler story]

[edit] His full name

Isn't Valentine. I checked the California birth records at Ancestry.com - he is listed as just "Val E. Kilmer". These records don't usually shorten names. Anyway, I'll change the invisible editors note. Mad Jack O'Lantern 05:41, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 1990s

Section needs some definite citations - or removals. All the bits about about the Doors, mainly. Mad Jack O'Lantern 06:30, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

  • More sourcing needed for "He was initially cast in the part and was excited about playing the Mormon church founder, but had to back out due to other acting obligations. "
  • "The play is receiving excellent critical reviews, as are Kilmer and his co-stars. " - on Postman
  • "It was claimed that Kilmer purposefully burned a cigar on a cameraman's arm during filming, but Kilmer himself insists that it was an accident. Kilmer also has his defenders who insist that his reputation for beign "difficult" has been widely distorted."
  • Also the category "Multiracial Americans" - don't really think it belongs unless a person is distinctly multiracial - Kilmer is just 1/8th Cherokee and has some other "ethnic" ancestry who know how far back.

[edit] Good article

Shall we nominated it for this status? Mad Jack 20:07, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Honestly, it reads more like a paean than an encyclopedia article. I don't think it's very good.Uucp 00:06, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kindergarten Cop????

Val Kilmer wasn't in Kindergarten Cop! At least not according to the IMDB, there's not a mention of it! If this is supposedly true I'd like to see it backed up.216.90.56.122 19:38, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

I saw Kindergarten Cop, and I didn't see him in it at all. I hope this helps. BWMSDogs 18:24, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Good Article

This is not a good article. It's main reference is Rotten Tomatoes, which is not legit site. Also, like stated above, it reads like a paean. --GoOdCoNtEnT 07:09, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sephardic?

Somebody has a very active, fertile, and wishful imagination. Is there any evidence Kilmer has any Jewish blood, other than demographic statistics? 69.109.114.183 12:37, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

What? It's cited right there. "Val Inside the actors' studio" cites the whole sentence on his background. Predictably, the link doesn't work exactly when you need that, but the Actor's Studio episode featuring Kilmer mentioned everything that is listed on the page. Mad Jack 17:41, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Ah, you can see a cached version here [1] Mad Jack 20:21, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification. I hope you're well stocked on analgesics for the post Halloween headaches. ;-)

[edit] Representativity?

Reading the article, Val Kilmer is an actor who has worked solidly since the beginning of his career, mostly producing movies that are either box-office hits or overlooked critical darlings, while otherwise staying out of the limelight - this doesn't seem to describe this actor to a T.

I wouldn't quite call it NPV, and it certainly is in compliance with BLP, but there seem to be some sources of subtle bias: commercial success or reasonable reviews are always mentioned, whereas bad reviews (which are plentiful) are omited. The many (and often wacky) controversies that have been reported over the course of his career aren't mentioned - the exception being the feud with Tom Cruise (currently likely to be considered the one responsible for whatever feuds he has).

In short, it just reads like a publicist-penned bio. It needs a bit of balance. Mip | Talk 18:51, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Guys, we've got to get a Main Image, any Ideas? Obi-WanKenobi-2005 03:55, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Is that guy and I the only ones that care? BWMSDogs 13:46, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Doors

If I'm not mistaken, the information about him memorizing the lyrics to the Doors music is false. I believe that on the Doors dvd, that their is a special feature which includes an interview with Oliver Stone stating that Val had been in a Doors cover band and that he recording a tape which contained his cover bands music and the actual doors and asked Oliver to differentiate between the too. I hope this helps.
