Talk:Val Valentino
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This entire article reads like a Val Valentino press release. There is no mention of the controversy surrounding his exposure of magic tricks. --Jamiem 02:11, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
For the would-be editors who come here looking for a name explanation, I can tell you that I exchanged many emails with one of the magicians that sued him and this gentleman assured me that Val did change his name in 1984.

- Personal emails, even if true, are not verifiable. I find no proof that there was ever a name change. Jogabbeyjr 17:15, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- Any form of personal correspondence (letters, emails, phone calls etc) is regarded as original research and therefore, is not permitted on Wikipedia. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 18:29, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
Until you can march your little butt down to the Los Angeles county clerk's office and prove to me that they did not seal Leonard Monatono's birth certificate, the information stands.
And besides, do any of the background check websites list a Leonard Monatono living in Nevada or anywhere else in the USA? No! (Not even if you spell it five different ways or use a wild card!)

- The information does not stand. There is no proof found online that there was ever a name change. All that can be found through several exhaustive google searches is the same information rehashed from this very page. You can NOT prove this one way or the other. The NPOV tag should be left up so that perhaps proof can be found. Jogabbeyjr 22:41, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
- Jogabbeyjr is correct. The onus is on the author to verify what they are writing. It most certainly is not on the reader to disprove what they read. That is a very dangerous approach to take towards any kind of writing. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 18:29, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Merger
Merging this with the Masked Magician article is almost like suggesting a merger between Peter Parker (and/or Spider-Man) and Tobey Maguire.
I realize that the Masked Magician is merely a seperate part of Val's life, but the merger reasons are fuzzy...I can and can't see any reason to do it.
The merger with the former Masked Magician page is complete.
If there was anything on that page that should be mentioned on this, please let me know as soon as possible and I will fix the problem.

[edit] Links vs. links
I frequently find that "External Links" has been changed to "External links" on this page. To which I repeat: "All the other titles are completely capitalized, so changing External Links to 'meet standards' just makes it look silly."
I realize that "that's the way WikiStyle is" and I also realize that only the first word in a sentence is capitalized. However, these are titles we're talking about here, not sentences!
You can keep changing it if you like, but I'm going to continue to change it back.

[edit] Unencyclopedic article
I placed the "tone" tag on this article, as it bears little resemblance to an encyclopedic article. A few of phrases desparately need to be changed; examples include "fend off the bullies that roamed his neighborhood" (really? they just patrolled the streets, looking for people to beat up?); "becoming the Masked Magician put a kibosh on that dream" (this might be the only WP article to use the word "kibosh"); and "By the time the 1980s ended and the 1990s rolled around" (no explanation needed). In addition, the "Later career" section is so POV that it might as well be removed altogether. The "Filmography" also must be changed to reflect the fact that he made guest appearances on these shows; it's not as if Valentino was on "Regis and Kathie Lee" every week. Overall, this article could certainly be salvaged, but not without some work. -- Kicking222 14:38, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] BLP
Removed uncited death threat comments. I couldn't find supporting evidence either. Sundaybrunch 17:12, 4 April 2007 (UTC) Also removed later uncited "later career" section and other uncited parts. They can be readded by someone who has reliable citations. Sundaybrunch 17:29, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
