[edit] Plot introduction
The story begins with Esk, son of Tandy Nymph and Smash Ogre, visiting a private retreat made out of an abandoned beerbarrel tree. But then a pie starts talking to him. He retreats and returns later. Then he sits on a pillow which makes a comment about the flabbiness of his posterior. This causes him to go home again. When he returns again to his retreat a blanket talks to him then tries to strangle him. Finally he realizes that the pie, the pillow and the blanket are the same. It is actually a demoness named Demetria, Metria for short, and she has claimed the hollow as her own. The demoness Metria tries to reach an agreement with him about the treehouse offering sex and death (she offered to simulate her death for him). But not trusting her he sets out to go to the Good Magician Humphrey and ask for a way to make her leave. On the way he meets Chex. Chex is the winged centaur daughter of Xap Hippogryph and Chem Centaur. He also meets up with Volney Vole who always replaces S's with V's during speech. All are looking for the Good Magician. They decide to travel together.
