Valentina (sauce)

Valentina is a Mexican hot sauce manufactured by Salsa Tamazula of Guadalajara. It is most commonly used in the United States' Hispanic culture, although it is common in Mexico. This is partly due to the fact that most Mexican culinary traditions involve the use of a homemade original salsa, therefore excluding the need for a manufactured sauce.
Although Valentina comes in two varieties—hot and extra hot—the sauce is known mostly for its taste as opposed to its spice. The taste can be described as a citrus flavor with a spicy aftertaste. Most enthusiasts refer to it as an authentic hot sauce, although in most Mexican homemade salsas, vinegar is seldom used, if ever. Among hot sauce enthusiasts it is very well rated, usually scoring 4 or more stars. It serves mostly as a dipping sauce or a hint of spiciness to most foods since its citrus-like taste rarely overpowers the taste of the food on which it is being applied.
