Valparaíso, Zacatecas

Valparaiso (vahl-pah-rah-EE-so), is a town in the north central Mexican state of Zacatecas. It is located at on the interior plateau, 70 mi/113 km E of Zacatecas, at an elevation of 16,677 ft/5,083 m. . There were approximately 11,000 inhabitants in the town proper 2006 The municipality as a whole has approximately 29,000 inhabitants. It should be noted that a great majority of citizens live and work elsewhere, many labor in United States. As a state, Zacatecas has 800,000-1,000,000 paisanos living abroad, nearly half of all Zacatecanos. There are more Zacatecanos living in the Los Angeles Area then the city of Zacatecas itself.
It is an agricultural center for corn, wheat, chickpeas, alfalfa, chilies and beef, pork, sheep, and goat.
