Various Artists
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs.
Sometimes a shorthand like V.A. or VV.AA. is used.
Some Various Artists single releases have their profits go to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are the World.
Album releases under the name of Various Artists are often compilation albums from a particular year or musical genre, or official soundtracks of motion pictures and video games.
Various Artists is also the alias of minimal techno artist Torsten Pröfrock.
