I'm new to being an editor, and I imagine most of my work will have to do with Western Europe, politics, first aid, criminal justice, Star Trek, punk music and a slew of other random junk. My intention is to give good explanations for all my Userboxes, but I am about to graduate and exams, I'm afraid, come before Wikipedia.

'Why Star Trek?' some people ask. Granted, the acting and cinematography is more often than not uninspired and pedestrian. Hell, William Shatner is unquestionably cheesy most of the time. But I like Star Trek because it shows what we could become and it provides an alternate reality where people don't murder one another because they worship deities differently or think that people ought be managed in one way or another.
[edit] What is a Vedek?
A Vedek is a Bajoran cleric that whose rank in the Bajoran religious structure is comparable to a Cardinal in Catholicism. They are led by a Kai, which is roughly equivalent to a Pope.

[edit] Just a Bit of Clarification
Not all Trekkies are, for lack of a better term, losers. If you know me, Stillnotelf or Rear Admiral D. Waters, you know what I'm talking about. Intelligent, adroit, socially capable people like Star Trek. It's foolish to assume that where there's a Trekkie, there's a fat loser who lives in his parent's basement and masturbates to pictures of Marina Sirtis.
[edit] Punk Rock
Punk music is often amateurish, discordant and poorly produced. Therefore, it is often said to have no objective artistic value. Without going into the problems of the phrase 'objective artistic value', it suffices to say that that might be a true statement. However, subjectively, it can have great artistic or social value. To put it in less philosophical terms - If you don't like it, that's cool.
[edit] A Note on Genres
First, it is important to understand that one can not place a band wholesale into one genre. To say that a band like Rancid is punk is correct when referring to song like 'California', but incorrect in reference to 'Ruby Soho'. Incubus is another perfect example of this. The differences between Fungus Amongus and Morning View out be immedeately apparent to anyone with ears. Even individual albums can't accurately be described by one blanket term. Green Day's nimrod features two songs, 'Good Guys Finish Last' and 'Good Riddance' what exist on opposite ends of the alternative music spectrum.
[edit] Punk Music and Anarchy, or Don't Read This If You Don't Care About Political Theory
The connection between anarchy and punk music is not a blanket rule. The Most Awesome Band on the Face of Planet Earth seems to advocate a 'classical' anarchy, by which I mean one that opposes any and all forms of social or individual coercion. Other bands, such as Flogging Molly, whose status as a punk band is questionable at best, seem to advocate a sort of anarcho-syndicalism, the etiology of which may be their Irish heritage.
