Vedran Ćorluka (born February 5, 1986) is a Croatian football defender who is currently playing for current title holder Dinamo Zagreb.
Ćorluka was born in Doboj, Bosnia and Herzegovina, city which was he and his family forced to leave because of war. He started to play football in Dinamo's youth selections when he was 8. Ćorluka's professional career started in 2003 but during that season he wasn't capped. Then he was sent on loan to Inter Zaprešić and played one season for them, bringing that small suburban team to 2nd place in the league, before rejoining Dinamo Zagreb in 2005.
He also started to play for the Croatian under-21 team and came close to the country's A team for which he made his debut in their friendly match against present world champions Italy played on August 16, 2006 in Livorno, Italy. Croatia won the match 2-0 and Ćorluka, who entered the game in second half, satisfied critics with his very good, solid performance against experienced Serie A forwards.
In his team Dinamo Zagreb, he usually plays as defender, on the right side of the field and also central position.
He is very tall for a football player (impresive 191 cm), but his main characteristic is very good coordination of movements, excellent technique and positioning. He is very comfortable with the ball. His height is also his great strength, especially during free-kicks and corners when he is very dangerous for opponent goalkeepers. Has a reputation of highly intelligent player and often goes forward and plays a striker when his team is loosing.
