Vejen

Vejen is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Ribe County on the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 244 km², and has a total population of 16,985 (2005). Its mayor is Regnar Busk, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.
The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Vejen.
Neighboring municipalities are Vamdrup to the southeast, Lunderskov to the east, Egtved to the northeast, Billund to the north, Brørup to the west, and Rødding to the south.
By January 1, 2007 Vejen municipality will, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007), be merged with existing Brørup, Holsted, and Rødding municipalities to form the new Vejen municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 817 km² and a total population of 41,350 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
