Ventilago viminalis [[]] |
Ventilago viminalis, or Supplejack tree, is a native tree to Central Australia.
It grows around the Alice Springs area, growing 4-10 metres in height and 4-6 metres in width.
It is a pendulous, small tree with grey-green foliage and small greenish flowers in winter or spring.
Australian Aborigines eat the gum from this tree. They scrape it off as it comes through, twisting it onto a stick. It can be chewed like chewing gum. The supplejack in Arrernte is called Atnyerampwe, and the gum is Ngwarle atnyerampwe.
