VFC-12 Fighting Omars
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
VFC-12 is a US Navy Reserve fighter squadron based at NAS Oceana, providing adversary training to East Coast air wings.
The Fighting Omars of VFC-12 flew the A-4 Skyhawk upon re-commissioning at NAF Detroit in 1973. They relocated to NAS Oceana in 1975 and continued their mission of DACT, Dissimilar Air Combat Training. In 1994 the unit transitioned to the F/A-18 Hornet. The 12 Hornets of The Fighting Omars wear a unique adversary camouflage, their F/A-18A models wear a two-tone blue scheme, with a few aircraft in two-tone gray. Their two-seat F/A-18B models all have a two-tone desert brown scheme. Recently VFC-12 has traded there old F/A-18 A+ and B models to "newer" F/A-18C from VFA-87 and have implemented a new paint scheme while bringing back the red star on their jets.
