Viatka

The Viatka pony originated around the Viatka and Obva rivers of the former Soviet Union and is currently on the verge of extinction. They probably developed from the Tarpan, with influence from the Konik and Klepper ponies as well.
The ponies are very versatile, used for both riding and driving (including the traditional troikas), as well as light agricultural work. They possess great stamina, endurance, and hardiness, and have an extremely willing and honest temperament.
The breed tends to have a small head set on a strong, thick neck. The shoulders and hindquarters are powerful, any the ponies are deep through the girth. The mane and tail is luxurious, and the coat can get very thick in the winter.
The Viatka is usually chestnut or red roan, as well as dun with dorsal and zebra stripes. Other roan colors and bay coloring is also seen. The animals stand between 13 and 14.2 hh.
