[edit] Notability

Mr. Agarwal appears to be editing as Rosamaple (talk • contribs). There is nothing wrong with that in principle, but it may mean that this page qualifies as a vanity entry. Notability has to be established based on either Wikipedia:Notability (academics) or Wikipedia:Notability (people). Since Agarwal according to the present (unreferenced) version has no academic background, the only thing that would allow us to file him under 'academics' would be the award of a honorary degree.
- The person has received a notable award or honor, or has been often nominated for them.
Regarding 'people', we demand any of
- A credible independent biography.
- The person has received significant recognized awards or honors.
- Wide name recognition
- The person made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in their specific field.
- Multiple features in credible news media.
- Commercial endorsements of notable products
The only thing that could conceivably be argued would be 'multiple features in credible news media', meaning that there would have to be several articles in major newspapers dedicated to Agarwal. This does not appear to be the case, at least not in the present unreferenced version. If there are any dedicated articles in notable media or any unmentioned academic awards, please mention them. Otherwise, I think we should {{prod}} this. dab (𒁳) 06:53, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
There are no "google scholar" hits on the name, 58 "news" hits on several unrelated persons with the same name (a cricket player, a former telecom company employee interviewed on corporate spionage, a transaction adviser Vishal Agarwal of PriceWaterHouseCoopers, a managing director of an Orissa steel plant, an engineering student saying "Microsoft is out. Freeware is in". 38 "scholar" hits, most of them on pharmacy or engineering, with two related hits, a citation of our man's California Textbooks Controversy: Politicization of an Academic Issue by Hindu-Haters and A Reply to Michael Witzel’s ‘Ein Fremdling im Rgveda. There is really nothing here that cannot be addressed with a brief citation on out of India and Californian Hindu textbook controversy. Even taking the most sympathetic stance possible, there is no way notability for a dedicated biographical article is established. In fact the Visa steel plant director turns out to be the rather more notable Vishal Agarwal than our Hindutva zealot. dab (𒁳) 08:52, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
